A Roll-Off Dumpster Could Make Cleaning Your Restaurant Post-Flooding Easier

If your area had bad weather that caused your restaurant to be flooded for a few days, you're probably facing a huge cleanup effort. When fabric, wood, and paper has been soaked for days, you'll probably have to throw the things out rather than restore them. Getting ruined things out of your restaurant so the building can be dried out is the first step in recovering from flood damage. Renting a commercial roll-off dumpster makes the job easier. Here are some suggestions for renting the dumpster.

1. Rent a Roll-Off Dumpster for the Cleanup

Your restaurant probably has a commercial dumpster for regular trash, but it isn't the best size and shape for disposing of things like chairs and drywall. Plus, your regular dumpster may have a wall or cage around it that makes throwing in bulky things difficult. A roll-off dumpster is long and open on top. You can park it near your building in an open space so tossing in ruined debris is much easier.

2. Choose the Best Size Based on Weight and Volume

You'll want the advice of the dumpster company about choosing the right sized dumpster. If you rent one that's too small, you may need to have it emptied and brought back. It would probably be less expensive to rent a larger one to begin with. Plus, rates are based on volume as well as weight. Wet furniture and drywall are heavy, so you might go over the weight limit if you rent a small dumpster. However, if you only have a small number of things to dispose of, then renting the smallest size will save money.

3. Understand What You Can Mix

You might be allowed to throw everything in the same dumpster, such as flooring, drywall, tables, chairs, décor, contaminated dry food, and boxes of table linens. When you combine things damaged by water and mold, you may have a lot to throw out. However, the dumpster company may not allow food in the roll-off dumpster. You may need to dispose of it in your regular trash dumpster. The company may also want furniture and décor separate from construction materials. If so, you may need to clean out the restaurant first and then have the contractor rent a second roll-off dumpster once building restoration begins.

You can rent a dumpster for just a few days so you can get it off of your lot as quickly as possible. However, if you need it longer, a commercial roll-off dumpster can be rented for longer periods so you can complete your work without being rushed. Contact commercial roll-off services to learn more.
